Bf went quiet this week (i.e. no email). It turns out he had a reaction to his pills and ended up in hospital for three days. He’s OK now. Such things worry me. I hope he’ll be fine while he’s here and the flight doesn’t do him a damage.

I can’t begin to list all the things wrong in this debacle: Police ‘did not misuse terror laws’. If only the Government spent at least as much time dealing with arms dealers with equal vigour.

Why me? Why is it that when I plan for bf to visit, baggage handlers at Heathrow start calling strikes and when I need to post the plane ticket to him asap Royal Mail goes on strike too. No other industries are on strike at the moment - only the ones I need most in the next two months. It’s not fair.

I make a point of following Prime Minister’s Questions, though to avoid having to listen to the tedious barracking and politicians whiny voices I read it the next day in Hansard. I find it cute how backbench reactions are recorded too; this week’s example: [Hon. Members: “Aw!”].

Finally got my act together and cleared out my inbox. It had 125 messages, with some going back to the end of last year. Now I’m down to a comfortable 16. Of course, my next task could be to do the same with my work email which has 2500 inbox messages (all read, mind you - just waiting to be filed or even acted upon)

Maybe I could even make a start on all the magazines and articles on my coffee table waiting to be read. One I should make time for is from the think-tank Demos on Open Source Democracy: How online communication is changing offline politics.

Didn’t go to work after all, so I’ll probably end up staying later tomorrow.

Did some hacking on Kipper’s talker (called ‘New World’ but since renamed to ‘The Castle’ for reasons yet to be explained) for the first time in ages. There’s a certain comfortable familiarity with hacking in C - it’s a skill I shouldn’t let lapse. After all, I’ve never really warmed to Java. However, my immediate tasks require writing lots of file parsing stuff which could quickly become very tedious.

Also bought Hilary Wainwright’s Reclaim the State, which I’ll get to after finishing Monbiot’s rather disappointing Age of Consent.

I stop paying attention for only a few weeks and the UK finally gets its act together and ratifies Protocol 13 of the ECHR (text can be found here). I wonder if my persistent emails to the Lord Chancellor’s Office/Department of Constitutional Affairs, My MP, Parliament, etc. had anything to do with it :)

Booked the ticket for bf with United Airlines, which was a trial. As I was buying for someone else I had to phone up and got someone who didn’t speak English very well. Consequently I was forced to repeat everything three times and although the dates/times were correct I bet they misspelled my name, bf’s name, my address, etc.

Anyway, I expected an e-ticket except the rules were that I had to be there in Chicago Airport to collect it for him! Just a little impractical, so they’ll post a paper ticket to me which I’ll have to send on to bf.

I’m glad I arranged this now so there’s plenty of time to sort out the inevitable confusions.

BTW I usually don’t bother with United Airlines as they’re so expensive but this time they were the cheapest by

Out of the frying pan, into another frying pan. My hosting/email provider have upgraded their servers and apparently b0rked my email. First it was coming in corrupted - now it seems to have disappeared completely.

Can anyone who sent me a mail yesterday re-send it as I’ve certainly lost it. For the time being all new mail is being redirected to another address.

Welcome to the weekend, but working on Sunday.

Happy United Nations Day.

Finally got my WAP site working on real phones. Formatting was a bit messy on my Nokia 3410 but it looked fine on my SonyEricsson T68i. I can’t be bothered to tidy it up for less sophisticated WAP browsers - it was only a bit of fun. Now the trick is to work out how to add diary entries through WAP…

For those who care, the address is: http://www.dreamfish.org.uk/wap/

Some other reading: Statewatch submission to EU Network of Independent Experts on Fundamental Rights.

Going to visit Denise this evening. She’s got a new job, chosen from 450 candidates. Cool.
