Bf got the money OK. Apparently he’s spent the past few days in hospital and was in a very bad way. Didn’t remember half of his stay. He seems to be better now but physically and mentally exhausted by it all (he actually fell asleep at the keyboard while typing an email to me).

Stress at work has reduced too, though this may return with a vengence when the project manager leaves and muggins here will most likely have to take over a lot of it, even though no actual handover has been arranged.

Otherwise I’m feeling quite good - much more in the mood for enjoying the (sometimes) jolly weather.

Another good Monbiot article, blah, blah, etc.

After some hectic running around in the centre of town, bf now has his money. I added some extra to compensate for what I assumed was going to be an unattractive exchange rate but it turns out it was quite good in my favour so bf has got a $150 bonus!

Probably going to meet up with Denise sometime this week - we haven’t seem each other for ages and she owes me a CD of groovy choons.

Note to self: go see the Bridget Riley retrospective at the Tate.

Fairly uneventful afternoon at work. Didn’t get any hassles from developers in the other office.

On the way back I stopped off at Daryl’s house and retrieved two laptops just for the hell of it. One was a Pico machine (I don’t think they’re in business any more) running Windows 98. Despite how old and beat up it is, it still works perfectly! I’m using it right now.

The other is a Dell Inspiron 3800 that I abandoned due to it randomly cutting out on me and the battery not holding charge. Visually it’s almost new. The good news is I had the power adapter next to me when it cut out again and noticed it’s actually the adapter that dies. That may also explain the battery as the adapter may stop working before it can charge properly. Getting hold of a new power adapter should be easy.

I just happened to switch on BBC Three and saw a bit of their Would Like to Meet programme and who should be on it but one of my best friends from school! His name is Julian Small. Loads of people I know keep popping up on TV. I hope I can avoid such a fate.

Ack! As soon as the transfer to bf went through, he emailed me to say actually he’d closed his bank account recently! That means hassle with getting the money rejected and returned, for which I’ll probably still be charged :(
Anyway I’ll do a WU money transfer instead and he should get it by Monday. Hopefully soon enough to keep a roof over his head.

While rooting around for financial documents I found my birth certificate, considered lost for some time. Did you know my birth was registered by a Mr Crippin?

I decided to send the money to bf via TIPANET, which is a financial system for transferring money directly to US bank accounts. I hope it arrives in time.

Today three more people left work. They were redundancies who had finished their notice period. We all went to the pub at lunchtime and were joined by a few others who had left previously. None of them had managed to find jobs in the interim. Rather sad and scary.

In the pub I saw this incredibly good looking guy. He reminded me of David Beckham. I just couldn’t stop staring at him. He was so fine it was giving me heart flutters. “If only…”, as they say.

Due to manic deadlines I’ll have to work this Sunday, though only in the afternoon. All praise the company.

I know I link to the Guardian far too much but any article relating to human rights gets my attention, especially Guantanamo Bay.

No response from bf about my offer of money. I need to know if he wants me to pay it directly into his account or through Western Union. Either way, that’s my expenses payment accounted for.

Funeral today. It was a simple and moving affair - there were about 100 people in the church, a lot of them from my brother-in-law’s work. Afterwards there was a ‘reception’ with food where everyone networked (after the family had come back from the crem). I spoke to only a few people as I didn’t know many of them and I don’t really have anything in common with my own relatives. It was a tiring day but my sister was strong.

Throughout the day I stayed close to my mother and, in the church as we were singing hymns, I realised it was the first time ever I had actually heard her sing, and she has a truely beautiful singing voice. It brought a lump to my throat. It’s amazing the things you don’t know about someone close to you.

Bf has asked for money to pay his rent as he has been ill recently and hasn’t been able to leave the house (the money he keeps for rent has apparently had to go on medical bills that the state don’t pay). If I send him the money then I won’t be able to visit (he needs $745). I’ll have to tell him that.

If he dies, so do I.

Back at my main office. No more travelling (for a while I hope). In the meantime I should have a nice expenses claim as compensation for all the grief of last week.

I’ve decided to go with Movable Type. At first the content will only be this diary and my personal polemic platform (watch this space). Interestingly, this comment sums up my feelings on the subject quite well.

In the meantime I’m waiting for bf to confirm that the first two weeks of September are a good time to visit. He’ll be back doing his college work by then (but at least that encourages him to stay off the evil liquid).

Daryl’s Wimbleblog.

I’ve been playing about with Movable Type and, having finally got it installed and working on my local machine, I must admit I’m quite impressed with it.

The question is: should I abandon my own hand-crafted diary entry system (thrown together fairly rapidly and haphazardly a couple of years ago but bearing up pretty well) and change over to MT? The advantages are maintenance and security. The disadvantage is the site would essentially be this diary with a few sidebars thrown in.

Then again, my static content is well out of date, rather cringeworthy when I look it now (exhibit A: Medium Fish) and the sheer hassle of thinking of novel stuff it is what has stopped me completing the ‘great revamp’.

We shall see. Now I’m off to investigate cool MT templates.

Had lunch with Valentina at the Thai restaurant, Rum Wong. Very pleasant. She paid for it and in return I properly tuned in her TV, video and DTVA (which I noticed was newer than mine as it had an external RF connection).

I recevied this email today. I wonder what it means:

Hi Robert, I am spirit and soul living in a body named Frank Stone Agbonmwandolor to all mercy, grace and peace from God the father and Jesus christ our lord and personal savior. I want to know all about dreamfish, hence, i have a dreamfish success and i think God is not quiet and the living bread exist and is maker is real and the dead shall raise again when he come. My prayer is that God the father should give temporary to permanent to reign on Earth that is how i cried the AMIGHTYGLORY for peace that i now see in my dreamfish success.
